Description of Program and Relief
Cobb County, Georgia: HomeSaver Assistance for Residential Renters
With funds allocated through the federal CARES Act, Cobb County has partnered with HomeFree-USA, a certified Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing nonprofit organization, to provide rental assistance to Cobb County residents who currently reside in single family homes, condos, attached homes, and apartments in Cobb County and have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualified renters can apply for a one-time payment of up to $4,800 to help pay their rent.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
In order to qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Experienced a COVID-19 related involuntary financial hardship resulting in either (a)involuntary reduction in income of 20% or more due to a change in employment or medical hardship; or (b) receipt of unemployment benefits after March 1, 2020 due to COVID-19;

Reside in a rental property located in Cobb County on or after March 1, 2020;
-
Has no more cash on hand or in applicant’s bank accounts than three times applicant’s monthly rent payment at the time application is submitted (excluding 401 K accounts and other retirement accounts);

Has an adjusted gross income not exceeding $69,439 for single applicants or $94,672 for joint applicants; and
-
Provide documentation to support all of the above, including proof of residence, proof of hardship or financial impact from COVID-19 (reduction-in-work-hours letter, medical expenses of applicant or dependent family member, doctor’s note), proof of income, and two months of most recent bank statements or proof of unemployment (if applicable).

In addition, as a condition to approval tenant must agree for the payment to be made directly to the landlord. The landlord must also agree to:

Participate via a signed agreement;

Provide the tenant’s rent ledger or rental history;
-
Suspend eviction proceedings (if applicable);
-
Dismiss any pending dispossessory case against the assisted tenant for the period covered by the grant (if applicable); and
-
Waive any late fees incurred associated with the delinquent rent period covered by the grant.
